A line die system divides the complete stamping process among several independent dies. A typical automotive sequence may use one die for drawing, another for trimming and piercing, followed by flanging and restriking dies. The part is moved between dies manually, robotically or by the customer's automated handling system. This differs from progressive tooling, where the material remains connected to a strip, and from a transfer die system, where part transfer is integrated around coordinated tooling stations.

The actual number of dies depends on part geometry, material formability, trim-line complexity, flange direction, springback and customer production layout. Some projects may combine trimming and piercing or flanging and restriking, while more complex parts may require additional forming or calibration operations.

Each die is physically independent, but the part geometry created in one operation becomes the locating condition for the next. Datum strategy, locating pins, support surfaces and part orientation must therefore remain coordinated across the complete tooling line. Accumulated locating error can affect trim lines, holes, flange positions and final assembly features.
Automotive sheet metal can change shape after each forming operation. When required, Changdong supports CAE analysis, springback compensation, over-bending, restriking and tryout correction. Each downstream die should be developed from the actual or approved incoming part condition rather than only the final nominal CAD surface.
Line dies may operate with manual handling, robots or other customer-specified transfer equipment. Tool design should consider gripping areas, loading direction, open-die clearance, part release, sensor requirements and interference around the tooling. Changdong designs tooling interfaces according to provided line information but does not supply complete robotic stamping lines or press equipment.
