Changdong is good at making metal stamping dies up to 4.2 meters, also we produce small size metal stamping toolings. The company manages the complete stamping die program from the CAE Simulation, layout designs and stamping tooling designs, and finish the machining to tryout and home line tryout to your hands. Meanwhile, the company produces the prototyping parts and stamping parts range from 45-880T. The successful cases include: stamping tools of Leoni connectors, automotive stamping dies of PSA P8 & B618, metal stamping toolings of Cummins exhaust pipe assembly, automobile stamping dies of NISSAN H60B projects, and stamping tools of car audio system, Canon printers, refrigerators, ovens and washing machines and so on.If you need metal stamping dies ,stamping parts or metal prototypings,

Progressive stamping die troubleshooting focuses on identifying root causes behind burrs, chip blockage, material stuck, feeding failure, punch breakage, bending size variation, and improper die maintenance during high-volume stamping production.
A progressive stamping die completes multiple operations in one continuous strip-feeding process. Because blanking, piercing, bending, forming, trimming, and part separation are connected station by station, a small problem in one station can quickly affect downstream accuracy and production stability.
| Problem | Possible Causes | Corrective Actions |
|---|---|---|
| Stamping Burrs | Cutting edge wear, large die clearance, edge chipping, poor alignment. | Regrind cutting edge, adjust clearance, repair inserts, check guide accuracy. |
| Chip Blockage | Small scrap hole, rough scrap path, sticky oil, worn cutting edge. | Modify scrap hole, polish scrap path, control oil, improve waste removal. |
| Material Stuck | Feeder issue, strip camber, guide interference, insufficient stripping force. | Adjust feeder, align die and feeder, improve guide design, check stripper force. |
| Punch Breakage | Chip blockage, half-cut feeding, small clearance, weak punch, guide wear. | Clean die, correct feeding, review punch strength, inspect guide components. |
Burrs are commonly caused by worn cutting edges, incorrect punch and die clearance, edge chipping, loose inserts, or upper and lower die misalignment. In high-volume progressive die production, burr issues should be corrected early because they can affect assembly, surface quality, and downstream forming stability.

Chip blockage often occurs when the scrap path is too small, the leakage hole has poor geometry, the cutting edge is worn, or stamping oil causes chips to adhere to the die surface. Poor scrap removal may lead to punch damage, part defects, or sudden production stoppage.
Feeding problems may come from incorrect feeder pitch, material width variation, strip camber, guide interference, insufficient stripper force, or poor alignment between the feeder and die. Progressive dies require stable strip movement because each station depends on accurate progression.
Punch breakage can be caused by chip blockage, poor feeding, insufficient punch strength, small die clearance, guide wear, incorrect punch material, or improper hardness. Before replacing a broken punch, engineers should check feeding, scrap removal, alignment, clearance, and punch design together.
Bending size variation may be related to guide pin wear, bending insert wear, material slip, pressure loss, poor preloading, material thickness variation, or unstable mechanical properties. In progressive die production, bending accuracy depends on stable strip positioning and consistent material behavior.
Check cutting edge wear, burr condition, and punch alignment.
Clean scrap channels and confirm smooth chip removal.
Verify feeder pitch, strip guide condition, and material support.
Inspect guide pins, guide bushings, springs, stripper plates, and top pins.
Record replaced inserts, adjusted stations, and abnormal production findings.
Confirm die locking, press setup, lubrication condition, and safety devices before production.

Dongguan Changdong Tool & Die Co., Ltd. provides custom progressive stamping dies, automotive stamping dies, transfer dies, prototype dies, deep drawing dies, checking fixtures, and sheet metal stamping parts.
From a tooling manufacturer’s perspective, progressive stamping die troubleshooting should begin with the production sequence. Engineers should identify whether the defect starts from material feeding, cutting clearance, scrap removal, punch strength, guide accuracy, or maintenance condition before making tooling changes.
