Metal Stamping Tool and Die Manufacturing
Dongguan Changdong Tool & Die Co., Ltd. provides metal stamping tool and die manufacturing for automotive and industrial sheet metal parts. Our work covers die design, CAE forming analysis, CNC machining, WEDM cutting, die assembly, press tryout, sample validation and dimensional inspection.
As a real metal stamping die manufacturer, Changdong focuses on practical tooling performance: stable forming, controlled clearance, reliable strip feeding, reduced springback risk and repeatable part quality during production.
A metal stamping tool and die is the engineered tooling system used inside a press to cut, bend, draw, form, pierce, trim or restrike sheet metal into a required shape. In real manufacturing, “tool and die” does not only mean the steel blocks inside the press. It includes the full tooling workflow from part review and die design to machining, assembly, tryout and final correction.
Metal stamping tool and die manufacturing is the process of designing and building press tooling used to form sheet metal parts. A complete stamping tooling project usually includes engineering review, forming simulation, die structure design, CNC machining, WEDM cutting, assembly, tryout, sample inspection and adjustment before production approval.
Different sheet metal parts require different tooling structures. Changdong selects the tooling concept according to part geometry, material thickness, annual volume, tolerance requirement, forming depth and production efficiency target.
Progressive dies are suitable for high-volume parts made from coil material. Multiple operations are completed station by station as the strip advances through the die.
Transfer dies are commonly used for larger or deeper formed parts that need to be moved between stations by transfer fingers, manipulators or robotic systems.
Single-stage dies are used for lower-volume production, prototype validation, forming studies or individual operations such as bending, piercing and trimming.
Prototype tooling helps validate part geometry, material behavior, forming risk and assembly fit before hard tooling or mass production tooling is finalized.
A reliable stamping die is not created by machining alone. It depends on early manufacturability review, accurate forming prediction, correct die structure, stable machining quality and practical tryout feedback from the press.
Changdong connects its stamping die design process with machining, assembly and sample validation, so tooling issues can be found before mass production instead of after delivery.
| Step | Tooling Work | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Part review and DFM study | Evaluate material, geometry, tolerance, forming depth and production feasibility. |
| 2 | CAE forming analysis | Predict thinning, wrinkling, cracking, springback and material flow risk before machining. |
| 3 | Die design and structure engineering | Define strip layout, forming sequence, die clearance, guiding system and press compatibility. |
| 4 | CNC machining and WEDM cutting | Machine die plates, inserts, punches, forming surfaces and precision components. |
| 5 | Assembly and fitting | Assemble upper and lower die sections, check movement, alignment, clearance and safety details. |
| 6 | Press tryout and sample validation | Test real forming behavior, adjust the die and inspect stamped samples before delivery. |
The factory equipment shown here represents the practical manufacturing side of stamping tool and die production. Precision CNC machining, WEDM cutting, die assembly benches and press tryout equipment are used to turn die design data into real production tooling.

This workshop capability supports the full tooling process from machined die plates and precision inserts to assembled dies, trial samples and final correction. For complex forming parts, CAE simulation for metal stamping die design can be used before machining to reduce risk in thinning, wrinkling and springback.
Changdong builds stamping tools and dies for different sheet metal applications, including automotive structural parts, brackets, reinforcements, exhaust heat shields, EV battery components, appliance parts, housings and precision metal components.

Many stamping die problems are caused before the first die plate is machined. If material flow, springback, draw depth, trimming direction, burr control or carrier strength is not reviewed early, the tryout stage may require repeated corrections.
For this reason, Changdong connects die design with forming simulation, machining, assembly and stamping die tryout and process validation. This helps reduce risk in progressive die tooling, transfer die tooling and deep drawing die projects where small engineering decisions can affect final part stability.
A custom stamping die maker is usually needed when the part has forming complexity, tight tolerance, high production volume, special material behavior or strict inspection requirements. For simple flat blanks, standard processing may be enough. For automotive and precision metal parts, however, the tooling design often determines whether mass production will be stable.
Choose progressive die tooling for high-volume coil-fed production.
Choose transfer die tooling for larger, deeper or more complex formed parts.
Choose single-stage tooling for lower volume, prototype work or separate operations.
Use forming simulation when cracking, wrinkling, thinning or springback may affect the part.
Use dimensional inspection when sample approval and tolerance control are critical.
